GTAZ hosts Emerging Leaders in the field of Social Work

Earlier this week, Global Ties Arizona was pleased to virtually welcome 8 IVLP Delegates from the Middle East to Phoenix on a project focused on “Preventing and Confronting Domestic Abuse and Violence.” The delegation’s city stop in Phoenix included a meeting with A New Leaf and 4 of their team members - Rosalie Hernandez, Program Manager, Faith House Crisis Shelter & Domestic Violence Court Advocate Program; Kimberly Hubbard, Program Manager, A New Leaf's Autumn House and CAAFA Emergency Crisis Shelters; Cindy Rodriguez, Program Manager, A New Leaf's Domestic Violence Overflow Program, Safe Access for Expedited Domestic Violence Services, Holly House, and Community Alliance Against Family Abuse Programs; and Laura Bode, Director of Community Engagement, A New Leaf.

A New Leaf is an organization dedicated to aiding local members experiencing hardship and trauma such as sexual and domestic violence, homelessness, declining health and wellness, financial instability, educational setbacks, and a lack of family support. This 90-minute meeting highlighted several legal, social, emotional, and advocacy services that are locally available to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, including emergency crisis shelters, 24/7 hotline services, court advocacy support programs and danger assessments. Additionally, IVLP Delegates and all guest speakers had the opportunity to engage in constructive dialogue regarding ways to provide and increase protections, legal rights, available support, and effective advocacy efforts for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence abuse and trauma.

Global Ties Arizona would like to thank all contributing members of  U.S. Department of State, MCID Washington, the English-Arabic Interpretation team, tech support, A New Leaf and of course the International Visitor Leadership Program for actively working hard towards creating safer and more supportive communities throughout our world, especially in fields of social work, social justice, and humanity.
