Today, GTAZ and SPOT 127 virtually welcomed 11 IVLP Delegates from 10 different countries to Phoenix, Arizona. The IVLP project theme was “21st Century ChangeMakers: Education Leaders Advance Civic Engagement Among High School Youth.”

The delegation met with Matt Myers, Executive Director and Trevor Gahona, Sr. Instructor to learn about the free, accessible and dynamic media programs that are offered to empower youth to craft their unique voices, grow professionally, and that strengthen student capabilities as young changemakers through civic engagement. SPOT 127 also offers scholarships for students interested in pursing higher education.

“Here at SPOT 127 our goal is to give our students a voice; which can be done through storytelling, journalism, photography and many other media outlets.”

- Matt Myers, Executive Director, SPOT 127

The delegation also had a chance to converse with two SPOT 127 Alumni - Jennifer Alvarez, Videographer/Producer, ASU Enterprise Partners; and Hamblet Lemus, Student Productions Assistant, SPOT 127. Both guest speakers shared how their experience in SPOT 127 programs increased their exposure to higher education opportunities; widened their professional networks; boosted their confidence and sense of self; and ultimately led them to where they are in life today.

“One of the hardest things to find nowadays is people who are willing to listen to your narratives. I am grateful today that GTAZ and SPOT 127 have connected me with this IVLP Delegation to hear my story, today.”

- Hamblet Lemus, Student Productions Assistant, SPOT 127

All parties at the meeting expressed their gratitude for sharing such heart-warming and inspirational stories.

A huge shoutout to MCID Washington, the U.S. Department of State, our IVLP Delegates, our Liaisons and of course our guest speakers for empowering our youth to be civically engaged positive changemakers.
