GTAZ hosts Journalists from around the World

At the end of the February, GTAZ virtually welcomed a delegation of journalists from around the world on an IVLP project focused on “Media Responsibility in an Age of Disinformation.”

In their first meeting, the delegation had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Jacob Nelson, Assistant Professor, Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Arizona State University. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Ms. Jan Holland-Malcom, Program Manager, Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Arizona State University, before engaging in a 2-hour workshop focused on the challenges that journalists face, the importance of media literacy, fact-checking and best practices that aim to emphasize the role of journalism in a democratic society, while they learned skill-building strategies and practices for combatting disinformation.

In their final meeting in Arizona, the Delegates had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Al Macias, News Director, KJZZ; Matt Myers, Executive Director, SPOT 127; and Trevor Gahona, Sr. Instructor SPOT 127. KJZZ is the Valley's source for award-winning public radio news and entertainment programming. KJZZ is the only NPR affiliate with a cross-border bureau - located in Hermosillo, Mexico. SPOT 127 is KJZZ's youth media center, and empowers teens to find their voices and engage with their communities through photo, audio and video storytelling.Topics of discussion in this 90-minute virtual session included how to promote media literacy among youth; best practices for reaching broad audiences; combatting misinformation;
