June 2023: GTAZ Welcomes Three International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) Delegations

During the month of June, GTAZ welcomed three IVLP Delegations focused on the following themes:

  • Cultivating U.S.-Africa Collaboration on Climate Resiliency and Health Security

  • Transparency and Accountability in State and Local Government

  • Human and Civil Rights Advocacy and Awareness

The delegations visited local organizations that focused on the program theme.

Cultivating U.S.-Africa Collaboration on Climate Resiliency and Health Security

African delegates visiting from Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia explored Arizonan policies and strategies to manage public health challenges while learning to understand our climate changes and related health challenges.

Transparency and Accountability

in State and Local Government

A project for Venezuelans, the delegation met with local governments to learn adequate handling of resources to combat corruption and the structure of ethics within the United States systems. They learned new ways to strategize the implementation of local activism for their own communities.

Human and Civil Rights Advocacy and Awareness

A project for Middle Eastern and North African delegates, the group learned about the historical context of human rights advocacy in the United States and the roles that associations, NGOs, and religious organizations play in advancing U.S. civil rights. Delegates visited from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya and Mauritania.
