Persian New Year Celebration
Welcoming the new year with a dining celebration at The Persian Room
About the Gathering
Persian New Year is a time for coming together with loved ones, indulging in festive meals, and ushering in hopes for a year filled with prosperity and joy. Join the Worldly Women Collective in celebrating this ancient Iranian tradition known as NoRooz (new day), a revered practice observed for over 3000 years by diverse communities across the globe.
The commencement of the new year aligns with the arrival of spring, coinciding with the spring equinox around the 20th of March, albeit varying annually. In 2024, this auspicious occasion falls on the 19th at 8:06 Arizona time.
NoRooz transcends religious boundaries, uniting individuals from various backgrounds such as Iranians, Kurds, Azerbaijanis, Tajikis, Afghanis, and more. Recognized by the United Nations as an international cultural event fostering peace and solidarity, the festival holds universal significance.
A central aspect of NoRooz preparations involves arranging a 'Haft-Seen' table, adorned with seven symbolic items, each starting with the Persian letter 'S' (seen). These items symbolize distinct wishes for a year filled with happiness, health, and prosperity. Families gather around this table, creating a meaningful connection until the precise moment the new year dawns.
