Join Craig Snyder, President and CEO of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, on a thoughtfully designed itinerary which allows the opportunity to experience first-hand the momentous changes taking place in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region. Begin in Riyadh and learn about the city and country’s past in order to understand its present and future. Begin at the archaeological site of Diriyyah, capital of Arabia in the early 19th century. Meet with a group of women at a local art gallery to discuss their role in Saudi society. Visit the King Saud University Museum and lunch with university students. Attend a briefing at the U.S. Embassy. Fly to Dhahran and visit the Aramco Visitor Center. Drive along the King Fahd Causeway to Bahrain. Visit Manama, the capital and A’Ali, with its hundreds of Dilmun burial mounds. From here fly to Kuwait to visit the Arab Organizations’ headquarters and learn about Kuwaiti textiles, handicrafts and Islamic calligraphy. Next, fly to Doha and visit the outstanding collection at the Museum of Islamic Art housed in a modern I. M. Pei-designed building that has become an iconic landmark of the city. At the Qatar Foundation learn about the importance the country has placed on education and visit Education City a 2500 acre campus. Through a series of high-level briefings, shed light on the current political climate in Saudi Arabia and address areas of concerns in the region towards Qatar.
